Is it time for another computer?

So as I sit here on my 24-inch iMac, looking over at my MacBook and a custom-built PC behind it, I’m wondering if I should buy another laptop. Why you ask? It’s simple really — I’m a tech addict. Don’t believe me? Here’s a quick list of just some of the things I bought in the last month:
- Nintendo DS (new one)
- D-Link router
- 50-inch HDTV from Panasonic
- Nikon D40 for those less-than special moments
- A Sony PSP
And the list can go on forever. When will it ever end?
My justification for the new laptop is my new podcast called The Digital Home Podcast. I have a dual-computer set up right now and I’m thinking I need something a bit more powerful than my MacBook to do all of my work on. To make matters worse, some of the schemes I have afoot may require even more processing power.
So I’ll leave it up to you — what should I do? Should I buy a new, more powerful computer? If so, should I get a Mac or PC? After that, what do you suggest? I want something extremely powerful.
Ugh. The plight of a tech addict.

How very very sad…..
To attract attention to yourself & your various blogs, you feel the need to write uniformed, polarizing pieces like; http://www.cnet.com/8301-13506_1-9866862-17.html
You apparently lack Any knowledge, experience or insight about Linux and are ignorant or have a agenda.
So….. Which is worst?
I say this as most of news.com.com (cnet, zdnet, techrepublic etc) avoid, ignore or discount what is going on with everyday Linux.
May I suggest you buy or build a Linux machine, appliance, desktop, server, laptop/notebook and see for yourself.
(you know Mac’s can be great Linux machines, I hear even Linus uses one)
Mac’s are very nice, both hardware & software wise and that is a good choice for some.
But Linux is already mainstream.
Do you use the Web?
Google, Cnet, Akami?
Tivo or most any DVR?
GPS, Tom Tom, Garmin?
Most or many wired & wireless routers/net appliances
Cell & Smartphones, Linux is second only to Symbian.
And then there is the un~reported or under~reported desktop.
The Ubuntu’s seem the most popular, yet there are many who like/prefer Redhat/Fedora, SLED/OpenSuse, Mandriva, Xandros, Linspire, PCLinuxOS, Mepis, etc, etc. Some even prefer the classics like Slack & Debian……..
If you wish to only know OSX, that is your choice.
If you wish to write about real technology and not just a product, you need to do, at least a little more research.
I get the feeling you are not much of a DIY’er, So….
Why not seek out a Linux solution Pre~made from a large or small vendor? They are out there…
The Dell or Leveno, HP, etc, If you need a big name?
or System76
http://www.system76.com/
or LinuxCertified
http://linuxcertified.com/linux_laptops.html
Or your Local Shop that knows Linux?
Or Look at http://linuxdevices.com/
But hey if you are more into marketing than tech…
to each their own……..
It’s Time! the macbook pro with its new refresh is calling to you Don. just send me your slow old macbook ; )
